Interviewer: How do you build that network of partners that will help you unlock new business when you bring it to them, but that I imagine are also pulling you into certain projects? How do you build that?
Joe Stefko: Right. So the network is pretty extensive. Let me give you an example on the healthcare side. We have revenue cycle recovery. These are hospitals and health systems that don't realize they have a leaky bucket with their insurance, the big insurers paying them the bill. We have software as a service that evaluates all the payer contracts and aligns them with their remittances, all those thousands of procedures they do, and we find patterns. Our partners are experts at finding patterns, developing the analysis and reports, and it's very scalable. Software as a service and these AI tools are enabling a lot of efficiency for scale and for solving problems, really big problems that are tens and even hundreds of millions of dollars.
How We Recover Lost Revenue
Many hospitals and health systems don't realize they have a leaky bucket: payers paying less than the contract says, one claim at a time.
- Enterprise healthcare revenue cycle recovery
- Digitized payer contracts aligned to remittances
- Automated appeals and underpayment recovery
- Expert pattern recognition at scale
- Software-enabled efficiency for hospitals and health systems
Why Underpayments Matter
3% to 5%
of net revenue is estimated to be lost each year to revenue leakage, including underpayments (HFMA, 2026).
Nearly 15%
of claims submitted to private payers are initially denied (Premier research via the AHA).
54.3%
of those denials were eventually overturned, usually after several rounds of appeals.
Industry-wide estimates. Results for any single hospital will differ.

Healthcare Revenue Cycle Recovery FAQs
Short answers to common questions about hospital underpayments.
What is a hospital underpayment?
A hospital underpayment happens when a payer pays a claim, but for less than the contract requires. Because the claim looks paid, the shortfall is easy to miss.
How is underpayment recovery different from denial management?
Denial management works the claims a payer refused to pay. Underpayment recovery checks claims that were paid against the contract and pursues the difference.
How do you find underpayments?
Software digitizes your payer contracts and aligns them with remittances across thousands of procedures. Experts then find the patterns behind the shortfalls and turn them into appeals and reports.
Should we check for underpayments after a merger or system conversion?
Yes. When contracts move to a new entity or fee schedules are reloaded into a new billing system, a small error can repeat on every claim. Our core work is post-merger integration, so we know where these handoffs break.
What do we need to get started?
Nothing for the first conversation. If there is a fit, a deeper review uses your payer contracts, fee schedules, and remittance data for an agreed period.
